However, after a TikTok user who goes by the name @neena.hs shared a lip sync video to Olivia Rodrigo’s song “jealousy, jealousy,” from her debut album ‘Sour,’ which was released in May, 2021, the trend gained traction.
For the unfamiliar, the song discusses the unrealistic societal standards placed on young people, particularly young women, and how social media exacerbates this issue.

The viral video features a young woman who looks upset and emotional while lip-syncing. Platform users noticed her uncanny resemblance with Riley from Inside Out, a 2015’ movie which focuses on personified emotions inside a characters mind.
On such commentator, whose username has “joy,” wrote in the comment section, “Riley it okay I’m Joy,” referencing to the movie’s character.

Many other users found it amusing and start using it as ever since. To hop on the trend many video-sharing platform user began making videos while referencing the joke.
The trend didn’t stop there, as many went ahead and even created account while using names like “rileyitokimjoy.”
The most popular video, reciting the comment with different voices and distortions, gained over 2.3 million views, with the original sound used in over 68,000 videos.
Other videos include game characters dressed as Joy using this sound, footage of people spamming their friends with the comment, and bizarre low-quality animations of Riley, Joy, or a combination of both characters.
