Lakshya Sen made history by winning the gold medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. However, the Commonwealth Games star is now involved in a new controversy. According to reports, an individual named M Goviappa Nagaraja filed an FIR against Sen in Bengaluru.

Why is Lakshya Sen accused of age fraud and cheating?

Recently, an individual named M Goviappa Nagaraja registered an FIR against Lakshya Sen, accusing him of using fake age documents and cheating in Bengaluru. In the FIR, Nagaraja has alleged Lakshya Sen and his brother faking their ages since 2010 to take part in the age-group tournaments.

According to the FIR complaint, the brothers planned to change their birth documents with their parents and coach Vimal Kumar. Lakshya Sen’s genuine age, according to Nagaraja, is 24 years old, which differs significantly from the date of August 16, 2001, listed in the Badminton Association of India’s records.

Lakshya Sen was born in 1998, although documents claim he was born in 2001, according to M Goviappa Nagaraja. The police have filed a complaint under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery with the intent to cheat), and 471. (using as genuine a forged record). Lakshya was born on August 16, 2001, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), and is currently 21 years old. His brother Chirag, who was born on July 22, 1998, is 24 years old. Lakshya and Chirag were accused of receiving benefits from the government through age-category competition victories in the FIR.

What’s next for Lakshya Sen?

The police are currently examining the matter, and if the charges are proven valid, Sen may be forced to give up several of his records and trophies. Kumar, who has trained Sen and his brother for more than ten years, commented on the FIR: “It really irritates me. It is poor stuff. Lakshya has performed admirably and has resumed training after a break. He finds it to be really upsetting emotionally.”
