A total of 35 people died in the violence as Ram Rahim’s followers resorted to arson and clashed with the security forces after the godman of the Sirsa city was pronounced guilty. As soon as the verdict was pronounced by the special CBI court, supporters of Ram Rahim went on a rampage at Panchkula, 10 km from Chandigarh.

Punjab and the Haryana state High Court indicated that all the losses which have been caused to the property could be recovered from Dera Sacha Sauda. It was after a Panchkula resident had filed a PIL raising law and order concerns after which the court had ordered, “in the case people indulge in causing loss to properties, all the process will be video graphed and the total loss which have been made will be recovered from the Dera.”
