With 2022 F1 season looking all set to introduce new regulations into the sport, the FIA (F1 governing body) did inflect some changes in the 2021 season as well, one of them being the introduction of 100km Sprint Qualifying at three Grand Prix this season.

This would be the first occurrence that the F1 drivers will reach from the start to the finish line without a break. The idea is to race for 100kms within the span of 20-30 minutes to set new qualification standards.

Scoring

The rank holders (Top 3) drivers will get points. 3 points to the driver who comes first and subsequently a point less to the other two. The winner will get a trophy at Parc Ferme, wherein there will be no ceremony held for the same. The podium honors will remain the entitlement of the top 3 in the main Grand Prix event which takes place on the weekend.

Tyre

During the new F1 Sprint Qualifying, teams are supposed to use only soft tyres. So-ft tyres with the purpose of giving teams a free hand to start the race weekend on any compound.

Wet Conditions

New additional tyres could be used by any team in case. If the FP1 or Qualifying take place on a wet condition. Although the teams would have to return the used tires before the start of the F1 Sprint Qualifying.

In case the Sprint Qualifying is held on wet conditions, then the teams can replace their one set of intermediate tyres with a whole new set.

The Qualifying Event

This is usually an hours’ session which is divided into 3 parts. Yet, it has been summoned by the FIA that the Qualifying Event shall be shifted on Friday. This with the aim of giving the first day of the track much needed attention.

Fans and Media

Similar tot he non-Covid era, media and fans are allowed for the Grand Prix. Having said that, the national anthem. other such moments will be held in a unique way of the race weekend.
