The Daily Mail says that the former Premier League player owes money to councils, banks, energy providers, HMRC (the British equivalent of our IRAS), and other creditors. According to the Daily Mail, the former midfielder is believed to have fallen behind on his mortgage payments.
According to The Sun, he received a one-year bankruptcy order from Birmingham County court. His debts are in the seven figures, a source close to Pennant told The Sun. His debts to the government and banks are enormous. He has fallen behind on his mortgage payments and his home will probably be repossessed.
The Sun also alleged that after Pennant failed to pay a number of unpaid invoices, creditors brought him to court. Jermaine Pennant Ltd., Pennant’s media firm, was dissolved in 2020. He had established the business to handle his earnings from “Celebrity Big Brother” and his screen time.
According to Daily Mail, Pennant’s £3 million home, which he purchased in 2006, sat unoccupied starting in 2020 after his breakup with his then-girlfriend Alice Goodwin.
Singapore relationship
At the beginning of 2016, Pennant relocated to Singapore and joined Tampines Rovers. He remained at the club for one season. He spent nine months playing in the S-League. According to S-League standards, the former England Under-21 international was reportedly making roughly S$20,000 per month.
He reportedly received offers from UK clubs as well as other Southeast Asian clubs before he departed Tampines Rovers. Pennant’s weekly salary at his previous club, Wigan Athletic, was around £25,000 (S$52,286 at the time), before he moved to Singapore to play in the local league.
Back then, Pennant’s presence did create some excitement for local football. Nearly 2,000 spectators attended the Jalan Besar Stadium pre-game friendly versus Hougang United. However, Tampines Rovers’ Pennant-winning season was deemed insufficient. With two games remaining, the five-time S-League winners at the time ended second in the S-League, one point behind Albirex Niigata. Tampines was eliminated by Albirex in the League Cup semifinal.
