Following a historic 295-run triumph against Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), the Indian cricket team will play the Prime Minister XI in a two-day encounter on Friday, November 30, at Canberra’s Manuka Oval. The Indian captain joined the team in the middle of the first Test, therefore this will be Rohit Sharma’s maiden appearance on the Australian tour. After the birth of his second kid on November 15, the 37-year-old was unable to attend the Perth Test.

After missing the series opener owing to a thumb injury sustained while batting in the nets on the eve of the match, Shubman Gill may also make a comeback for the Indian squad.
Australia’s prime minister selects the Prime Minister’s XI, which is a cricket team. Usually, young cricket players are chosen for the team but this time around experienced players have been named as well by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese with Australia trailing the 2024 BGT series. Pacer Scott Boland, who is a member of Australia’s 14-man Test squad for the BGT, is included in the team that will play India. Matt Renshaw, another capped Test player, is also participating in the game. The Australian PM met with the Indian side as well before the match.
It is a tradition for the PM XI side to play against the visiting team at the Manuka Oval and earlier it was played in an ODI format, but since 2022, the format has changed and now the game takes place in a four or two day test format.

Every year, the PM XI takes on a visiting foreign side at the Manuka Oval. When West Indies played them in 1951, the match was a one-day affair. The event was played in a four-day format (pink ball match) for the first time in 2022. India is playing a day-night, two-day match this year, and Pakistan played a four-day match in 2023.

Against Marylebone CC in 1963, Don Bradman famously came out of retirement to play for PM XI.
India has lost all three of its ODI matches when playing the PM XI (1991, 1999, and 2004).
India Vs Australia
The match against PM XI has been scheduled to give India time to get used to playing with a new ball and under lights, as the second Test match between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval beginning December 6 is a pink-ball Test (day-night Test).
India has only ever played four daynight Test matches, the most recent being in Bengaluru in March 2022 (more than 2.5 years ago) against Sri Lanka. At the same location (Adelaide) in 2020, India faced Australia in a pink-ball Test match and was famously knocked out for 36.
