What is an Impact Player?
The normal substitution rule in international cricket, which permits a replacement fielder to take the field in place of an injured player but prevents them from bowling or batting throughout the match, is very different from an impact player.
One replacement player per side may participate actively in matches with the bat or the ball under the fundamental principles of the Impact Player in the IPL.
Teams can select five replacement players before a match in addition to their starting XI under the Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League. The captains of the two sides may select any one of these five replacements to take the place of a player in the starting lineup during any of the game’s natural breaks after it has begun.

A player who has already batted or bowled can be replaced by a team member, and the replacement can bat and bowl for the entire amount of overs allotted. This implies that someone else cannot bat if a hitter takes the place of someone who has already batted.
Teams in the Indian Premier League are only allowed to field up to four foreign players every match. This means that if four foreign players are nominated in the starting XI, an Indian player must be selected as a replacement.
