At the BetVictor Welsh Open’s round-of-16, Mark Allen defeated Luca Brecel 4-2 to qualify for the crucial quarterfinal match against Robert Milkins, where the £150,000 BetVictor Series bonus will be at stake. Shaun Murphy defeated Daniel Wells 4-1, raising the roof at Venue Cymru with a 147. The Magician, who is going for his first ranking victory since winning this competition three years ago, also put up an impressive performance by making breaks of 66, 145, & 78.
With a high break of 68, Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Ben Mertens 4-0 in just 58 minutes. Following his whitewash victory over Robbie Williams, Joe O’Connor is now in line to qualify for the Player’s Championship at Wolverhampton. Tian Pengfei defeated John Higgins thanks to his break of 80 that allowed him to win by score of 4-1. Meanwhile, Pang Junxu defeated Jak Jones 4-2 to end any potential Welsh winner and Yuan Sijun managed to bag resounding 4-1 victory against Jack Lisowski.
During Friday’s quarterfinal matches, Ronnie O’Sullivan is scheduled to face-off against Tian Pengfei and Mark Allen will clash against Pang Junxu. Elsewhere, in-form Shaun Murphy will play Yuan Sijun and Mark Allen will take on the challenge of Robert Milkins.
