Although Russia is banned from the ongoing Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing as it was for the Tokyo Olympics, the country has still managed to send it athletes to the games. And ahead of them getting underway, President Vladimir Putin made his presence felt with him turning up to revel in the opening ceremony.

However, regaling himself in the glistening ceremony wasn’t the only thing the Russian head honcho was doing on the night. He made sure he used the ceremony to make a political statement as well with him caught pretending to be asleep on camera as the Ukraine contingent was announced.

The nap got over after the Ukraine team completed its foray into the field with Putin seen getting up as soon as the Russian contingent was announced. Putin’s move comes at a time when tensions between Russia and Ukraine are at an all time high with Russia said to be on the cusp of attacking Ukraine.

In the midst of the escalating scuffle between the two countries, US President Joe Biden decided to recuse himself of any responsibility with him claiming a minor incursion by Russia into Ukraine wouldn’t matter. His comments sent ripples across Ukraine with the country’s bigwigs livid at Biden’s soft stance towards Russia’s aggression with the POTUS once again dismally failing in his foreign policy after leaving Americans stranded in Afghanistan as the country was taken over by the Taliban.
