India was eliminated early from the T20 World Cup last year after losing to Pakistan in their group-stage match by a score of 10 wickets. Not once, but twice, they ran into each other at the Asia Cup a month ago. Pakistan tied the game in the second match despite Rohit Sharma and his team winning the first match. But both games were intensely competitive and lived up to the hype around an India-Pakistan meeting.

Under pressure, Kohli guides India to an incredible victory over Pakistan.
In a heart-stopping T20 World Cup match that took place at the MCG amphitheatre on Sunday, Virat Kohli controlled the big stage with a knock for the ages. He led India to an incredible four-wicket victory over Pakistan. King Kohli, as his admirers refer to him, produced a remarkable and unforgettable 82-run knock to lead a 160-run chase that proved difficult after India was reduced to 31 for 4. Hardik Pandya, the most important component of India’s T20i team, struck 40 runs off 37 balls as part of a 113-run partnership. Due to a protracted dry spell, Kohli’s ability to win games for India came under scrutiny. On the biggest stage, Kohli sang the ideal song of redemption.
India lost both of its openers—KL Rahul and captain Rohit Sharma—cheaply in what was a nail-biting match between the two teams that were eager to claim their first victory in the T20 World Cup 2022. Suryakumar Yadav, who was in good shape, relieved some strain, but Pakistan’s fine-pace onslaught also caught him off guard. Later, it was Kohli and Hardik Pandya who maintained their composure and led their team home.
India quickly reached 31 for 4, at which point Kohli and Pandya had to bat steadily for the next four overs without losing any wickets. Both Pandya and Kohli, pupils of the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni, are adept at pacing an innings and understanding the rules of chasing in T20 cricket.

India limited Pakistan to a manageable 159 for eight thanks to the pacer duo of Arshdeep and Pandya, who proved his value in the back-10. Pandya (3/30) revived memories of his Asia Cup exploits by routinely striking hard lengths at a brisk pace, letting the pitch do the rest. Arshdeep (3/32) established the tone by dismissing captain Babar Azam (0) and Rizwan (4) in his first two overs.
The only hitter who appeared capable of returning the attack to India was Iftikhar Ahmed (51), as the spinners, Ashwin and Axar Patel (1/21) struggled somewhat and it was designated sixth bowler Pandya who completed his allotted overs. During his 42-ball innings, Shan Masood (52) scored a half-century but never seemed at ease. Momentum shifted repeatedly between the two teams during that inning. Pakistan mounted a comeback due to a 76-run partnership between Shan Masood (52 not out) and Iftikhar Ahmed (51) for the third wicket. In the end, India came back with a string of wickets to prevent Pakistan from scoring more than 160 runs.
