Red Bull instantly went onto ask the Dutchman to pit for new soft tyres with the FIA telling teams that lapped cars could not overtake. Toto Wolff was seen seething as he got on the FIA team radio with FIA director Michael Masi before being shut down by Masi.

“Toto, it’s called a motor race, okay?” We went car racing,” Masi said as he replied to Wolff’s qualms.

Just as the safety car period came to an end, the FIA went onto inform teams that overtaking would now be allowed. With fresh soft tyres at his disposal, Verstappen went onto ease past Hamilton as he pulled through the one-lap sprint to the chequered flag to be named the 2021 world champion.
