Two players from the US women’s soccer team turned their backs when World War 2 veteran Du Pre played the national anthem

The video got shared on Twitter as the rest of the Mexican players faced their flag.

The US women national soccer team have put themselves in a new controversy during the match between the USA vs Mexico. Moreover, the match was an Olympic send-off match where the USA team won by 4-0. The controversy started before the match started when both the teams stood for the national anthem. Two of the players denied turning away towards the American national flag when the national anthem was played.

The national anthem was played by World War 2 veteran Du Pre on his Harmonica. So, let’s know the whole situation and who are these players?

The match was played at Rentschler Field where the Mexican team faced hosts USA. Moreover, it was a friendly match and the USA Women team thrashed the Mexican team by 4 goals. Furthermore, Lindsey Horan, Tobin Heath, Cali Lloyd score one goal each. Also, Reyna Reyes’s own goal helped the USA team to put four-goal on the score sheet.

The controversy started before the match started. Furthermore, both the teams were standing for the national anthem of their countries. One of the veterans of World War 2 Du Pre joined the teams to play the national anthem of the American team. Additionally, when the national anthem started all the players including the Mexican team faced the national flag of America except two.

One of them was No.11 Christien Press and the other one was No. 2 2 Crystal Dunn. Dunn plays on the left wing-back and has scored 24 goals for her team. Whereas, Press has contributed 61 goals to the American side.

The Americans found the incident shameful and disrespectful for the WWII legend. Moreover, most of them came with a statement that he fought against our enemies and he doesn’t deserve these kinds of incidents. Du Pre is a 98-years old World War 2 veteran.
