Why Trevor Bickford is under investigation by police?
Three NYPD policemen were hurt on New Year’s Eve in an unprovoked attack by Trevor Bickford, a young attacker who wielded a machete. According to sources, 18-year-old Maine resident Trevor Bickford used a machete to attack police officers in the vicinity of Times Square in New York City. It is revealed by authorities that officers who were hurt in the incident were taken to the hospital almost immediately and are said to be recovering well.
After being shot in the shoulder by one of the wounded officers during the attack, Wells High School graduate Trevor Bickford was also rushed to the hospital. Although the police have said that this was an unprovoked attack by Bickford, they have not yet determined a motive as they look into the suspect, who they have identified as a supporter of pro-jihadist ideology, according to a statement from officials.
How did Bickford manage to attack police and what was his motive?
According to law enforcement officials, Bickford travelled on an Amtrak train on December 29 from Maine to New York City. On December 31, 2022, just after 10 p.m., outside of checkpoints in Times Square, where New Year’s Eve celebrations were in full flow, Trevor Bickford approached an officer. The NYPD claims that Bickford used the machete to strike two of the cops in the head, fracturing one of their skulls and lacerating the other.
Bickford was shot in the shoulder, according to the police, and was taken to the hospital to receive medical attention. Due to online comments and the attack’s methodology, the incident is being looked at as a potential act of terrorism, according to law enforcement sources who spoke to ABC News.
