REIGNING Tadej Pogacar, the reigning Tour de France champion, came up short in unusual circumstances during the Tour of Slovenia.

After losing a game of rock, paper and scissors close to the finish line, the Slovenian delivered victory to teammate Rafal Majka. The duo had jumped out to a huge lead over their competitors, finishing more than 20 seconds ahead of everybody else. Pogacar appeared to be on his way to winning victory once more, as he opened up a sizable lead in stage four.
Majka triumphed and reached the finish line first, reducing Slovenia’s advantage in the tournament to three seconds heading into Sunday’s final leg. As the two demonstrated their domination over the field on the day, the commentary crew laughed at their antics.
According to the experts at Paramount+, “Pogacar said rock, and [Majka] said paper. Majka takes the stage as the rock is wrapped in paper. Rafal Majka covers their team’s rock, Tadej Pogacar, in the paper. What do you think?”
Majika, 34, is recognised for his climbing, which helped him win the first stage of the competition. Pogacar is the overwhelming favourite to win the prestigious Tour de France, which begins in Copenhagen next month. The victory would be the 23-year-third old’s in the tournament, solidifying his status as the best cyclist in the history of his country.
Geraint Thomas, the British rider who won the race in 2018, is his main contender for the legendary Yellow Jersey. However, the comfortable situation in which the two had found themselves allowed them to unwind by playing a playground game to determine the winner.
