Following the incident, fans on the internet and media outlets have blasted Sacchi with backlash and allegations of sexism.
Juan Luca Sacchi snubs a female assistant
Just recently, Juan Luca Sacchi snubbed a female assistant named Francesca Di Monte ahead of the Lecce vs Sassuolo Serie A game. As the two teams lined up in the tunnel ahead of the match, Di Monte outstretched her hand to shake hands with Sacchi which he openly snubbed. Di Monte was visibly displeased with Sacchi’s actions while he went on to greet the captains of the two teams.
Besides Sacchi, the Italian Referees Association have also been facing major criticism ever since the video surfaced online. The association has since come out to deny claims of sexism and gender-based discrimination. Moreover, Sacchi is now set to face a one-game suspension for his actions.

Unsurprisingly, Sacchi has been the subject of several issues in the past. Just recently, the Italian official was under controversy following a series of poor decisions during an Inter Milan vs Monza clash. During the match, Francesco Acerbi put Milan 3-1 up, but Sacchi disallowed the goal citing a foul on Pablo Mari during the build-up. However, upon reviewing the replay, Mari was actually clipped by his own teammate Armando Izzo. Moreover, Sacchi denied the Nerrazzuri a freekick following a poor challenge by Carlos Augusto. As such, the game ended on a two-all draw.
