After being knocked down by Ajax forward Brian Brobbey, Vaessen’s teammates reacted in a panic and frantically shouted for assistance. Vaessen clashed with Ajax player Brian Brobbey in the 84th minute of the Eredivisie game, leaving him on the ground hurt. As soon as medical personnel treated the 28-year-old on the pitch after the accident, officials were holding sheets over him.
RKC players were in tears as Vaessen was being treated before being carried off on a stretcher. The game will now resume a day later with Ajax leading 3-2 at the time of the incident. According to ESPN Netherlands, Vaessen, 28, was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
RKC provided an update on Vaessen on Saturday night. They wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter):
Dear RKC members, We are extremely shocked by the incident on the field with our goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen.
They further continued:
We can announce that, after extensive medical examination, he is conscious and has been transported to hospital for further examination. We wish Etienne a lot of strength and strength and hope to have him with us again soon.”
The 28-year-old Vaessen has played more than 100 times for RKC over the course of his entire professional career. Ajax informed after the incident via their X account that the action has been briefly stopped due to what appears to be a major medical issue.
Meanwhile, the player is rumoured to be out for a while, but no information on his return to the field of play has been confirmed because both the player and the club will put their health first.
This is about more than football.
