Australian sociologist Dr Salvatore Babones spoke at the India Today Conclave on Saturday in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to express his opinion that the false portrayal of India as a fascist state in the foreign media is harming the country’s reputation but Rajdeep Sardesai was quick to talk about his angst for Umar Khalid
Additionally, he attacked India’s left-liberal ecosystem, which regularly criticises the BJP-led government, and dubbed them “anti-India.”

India’s intellectual class is anti-India: Dr Babones.
Babones, an associate professor at the University of Sydney, claimed during a talk with journalist Rajdeep Sardesai that the groups and purportedly “liberal” intellectuals who support the opposition to the government are “anti-India”. The intellectual class in India opposes India. A class of people in society, not just one person, is anti-Modi and anti-BJP, he added.
He continued by saying that the left-liberal academics base their criticism on a factor that most likely won’t ever alter. “Assume the UPA takes over as government. Does it want to demolish the Ram Mandir and abolish the UAPA? Therefore, the criticisms’ underlying assumptions will probably not change. The same criticisms will be levelled at them if they do,” he said.
Dr Babones completely stunned Sardesai.
Sardesai attempted to justify the anti-India movement by arguing that challenging the government is a display of patriotism while appearing unhappy throughout the chat.
Dr Salvatore Babones responded by saying that these intellectuals must first determine if they are criticising the entire government or just the BJP-led government. The question is: “Is this connected to the BJP government, or will it unavoidably continue under any other government that will take office at some point in the future? Then, would there be a re-evaluation of opinions?” he asked.
India faces issues. Activists, journalists, and intellectuals all have a responsibility to draw attention to the issues. He claimed that the issue is that they permit outside factors to influence the overall assessment of this system. He emphasised that India is not a fascist nation and that the international media is misrepresenting it as such.
