In her now-viral video, Shalini Kapoor, remarked that feeling bad after disqualification is pointless and that preparation for such a significant event should have been done in advance.

This video came in response to Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s last-minute disqualification at the Paris Olympic 2024, leading netizens to slam Shalini Kapoor Tiwari, the TV news anchor from News 18, for her insensitive comment on live television.

During her live broadcast with a panelist named Amrit, Shalini was having discussion of why Vinesh Phogat was disqualified.

While conversing, Amrit pointed out the fact that losing two kilograms overnight is extremely challenging for any athlete.

To which Shalini remarked, “This is upsetting, but we must also consider why such a situation arose in the first place.”

She further added while drawing an analogy between a student’s preparation and Phogat’s incident that, “I go to appear for an examination and keep saying that I have failed despite studying the entire night before the exam,” adding that “these just become mere excuses.”

The news anchor’s remarks did not sit well with the audience, who found them insulting. The video went viral on social media, with people condemning the anchor for her “insensitive and senseless” reaction to the unfortunate news from the Olympics.

Following the massive outrage over her controversial comments, Shalini Kapoor Tiwari issued an apology note on her X account.

In her post, she wrote that it wasn’t her intention to “hurt or insult anyone. I express regret and take back my words.”
