A stone-pelting incident was reported on August 29 from the Panigate Darrumourswaza neighbourhood in the Gujarati city of Vadodara’s Mandvi region. Speaking to the media, Joint Commissioner of Police Chirag Koradia stated that the crime branch is looking into the situation and that it is under control. The officer warned people not to believe any rumours because the area was calm at the time.

Two communities reportedly started fighting while the Ganesh procession was moving through Panigate Darwaza in the sensitively populated Mandvi neighbourhood, and began throwing stones at one another.

The media was informed by Panna Momaya, the deputy commissioner of Vadodara, that “a Ganesh procession was travelling through Panigate neighbourhood on Monday night when an internal dispute broke out and stone-pelting ensued. Unfortunately, one of the stones broke a window in a place of worship, raising concerns that people of colour were being attacked. The two parties then clashed as a result of retaliation.

As soon as the city control room received a call about the incident, police officers from all local police stations sped to the area and stabilised the situation, according to Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, Deputy Commissioner (Crime Branch).
