Video footage shows the Millwall fans vociferously boo the Crystal Palace players taking the knee in support of BLM during their FA Cup match

With just six miles separating Millwall and Crystal Palace, one love is lost when the two teams lock heads.

And as they took on each other for their third round FA Cup tie on Saturday afternoon, the feelings of angst both the clubs had towards each other was on clear show. The Millwall fans were in a particularly feisty mood with them setting the mood for things to come on the day right from the onset.

Before the showdown got underway, the Crystal Palace players decided to take the knee to throw their weight behind the Black Lives Matter movement. However, it was far from well received by the home fans who were seen boisterously and rapturously booing the gesture with the stadium filled with boos.

Things remained the same across the course of the matchup with missiles and flares being constantly set off by the home supporters who also threw a bottle at Michael Olise in the second half. Conor Gallagher was also subjected to homophobic chants of “Chelsea rent boy” with the song erupting during the FA Cup 3rd round match.

“I don’t think either of the clubs want to see any of those moments off the pitch but I am sure both will deal with those situations effectively,” Lions’ Gary Rowett said.

Patrick Vieira had the same tone as he said, “We as a football club are against any kind of discrimination and of course this is not something we want to see on the field.”
