Schumacher was involved in his second high-speed collision of the season, following a major one in Saudi Arabia.

The announcement came after the race had been delayed for more than an hour owing to heavy rain, which had raised safety concerns.

With a power unit malfunction, Schumacher’s teammate Kevin Magnussen also withdrew from the race, which was won by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, putting Haas out of the points for the third consecutive race.
