When Marseille and Galatasaray took on each other in France on Thursday night in the Europa League, things were never envisaged to be calm.

A clash between two clubs who are known to have some of the wildest set of deranged ultras, this was an encounter which was bound to be riddled with ugly visuals. And while that narrative unfolded as envisaged during the matchup, there was a moment before the tie, the lull before the storm when both the set of ultras joined hands to berate PSG.

However, once the fixture commenced, there was no bonhomie shared between the two groups of ultras. Flares were launched into each other’s camps with things getting so bad at one point that the referee decided to halt proceedings in the first half with security required to step in to control the situation.

Things weren’t any better on the field either with both the set of players seen bickering with each other. The feud between Patrick van Aanholt and Matteo Guendouzi acted as the flashpoint of the fights in the second half with PVA going onto Twitter after the tie to warn the Frenchman he would rip his wig off.

The matchup meanwhile ended 0-0 with neither side doing enough to break the deadlock.
