Hamilton eased up next to Perez before gradually moving ahead of him down the stretch in Istanbul. However, Perez refused to let go off his lead with him undeterred by Hamilton as he managed to keep the Mercedes man at bay.
Hamilton who eventually ended in fifth place was seen livid at his team after they failed to manage his tires. Hamilton was asked to pit late on in lap 50, a move which saw him miss out on crucial points with him once again falling behind Max Verstappen who managed to take home second spot.
Mercedes meanwhile did have something to rejoice in as Valtteri Bottas took pole whilst Sergio Perez’s tenacity saw him complete the top three.
After 29 laps, Hamilton had closed to within 1.9s of Perez with the two going wheel to wheel just three laps later. Hamilton who had his nose infront of Perez in lap 35 fell back into fifth place as Perez regained his fourth spot.
