Despite opening the scoring for his side, Lautaro Martinez ended up with a horrendous miss on the day
Although Lautaro Martinez has proved his mettle at Inter Milan, the Argentina has been waning in form across the last year.
While he’s well known to go on a rampage when in the best of form, Martinez can make for a dreary sight when he’s at his worst. It’s a narrative which unfolded during Argentina’s semi-final showdown with Colombia.
Lautaro Martinez Horrendous Miss vs Colombia
Handed a golden opportunity to score for Argentina as David Ospina came off his line, Martinez ended up making a meal of the strike. The striker despite being handed with a completely empty goal ended up bundling the ball straight into Colombia’s defender to leave Argentina’s ardent supporters aghast.
The howler of a miss sparked strong reaction on the global stage with many comparing Martinez to Gonzalo Higuain. While the comments were a bit harsh with Martinez having had scored for Argentina in the tie, the miss was worthy of being smeared.
And then they say "Messi fans always blame his teammates when Argentina loses".

Martinez meanwhile will have taken a massive breath of relief after his side managed to overcome Colombia on penalties. With the score level at 1-1, the semi-final went down to penalties with Argentina managing to outshine their opponents 3-2.
It was down to shot stopper Emi Martinez who pulled off three penalty saves to take his side into the much coveted showpiece clash. Argentina will now be squaring off against Brazil as Neymar vs Messi gets ready to enthrall us.
For Argentina who are on a 19 match unbeaten run at the moment, the impending final is more then just a chance to finally win the Copa America. The side will be looking to salvage the semi-final defeat in 2019 at the hands of Brazil a couple of days later.
Meanwhile Brazil sealed their berth in the marquee final having sealed a 1-0 win against Peru. The hosts are touted as the outright favourites to go on and walk away with the revered trophy under their arms.
