The New York City educator was apparently kicked off the flight because the American Airlines staff didn’t like her “tone” after she voiced her displeasure over the four-hour delay on her connecting flight.

Kyleema Norman, a deputy superintendent with the Department of Education, had a trip to Granada planned on Sunday, August 7. The two of them ended up trapped at the LaGuardia Airport while they awaited their connecting flight via Miami. Their trip, which was planned to be a surprise for her daughter Bobbie’s college graduation, was delayed by the airline.

What did Norman say? Did racism really stop her from boarding?

Norman stated that she complained to airline staff in her teacher’s voice, but the employee took it as a threat and phoned the Port Authority police. Norman later discussed the incident. They were not trying to incite a riot she said, referring to the debate. She didn’t curse at him, yell at him, hit him or make a scene. She recalled hearing that her tone at 35,000 feet — he does not think he would be able to trust her and be safe in the air with a pilot and another passengers.

On her Twitter account, Norman also posted about the incident. Later, she uploaded a 45-second video from the airport to her Instagram account, where as of Tuesday afternoon, it had hundreds of views. The video shows another passenger who started recording as soon as the police approached and engaged in the argument.

Norman went on to blame racism for the incident, claiming that although all the other passengers were allowed to board, the Black people were refused service. She posted on social media about her daughter’s damaged graduation present, asking, Who knew the gift would be her watching her get barred from their flight on American Airlines and witnessing the fury of racism?

She advocated for everyone, but she is not allowed to board the plane because the person who pretended to help didn’t like her “tone,” according to Kyleema’s daughter Bobbie, who echoed her mother’s remarks.

$125 travel credit for a $2,145 travel ticket!

American Airlines returned her bags and gave her a $125 travel credit, which is a little sum compared to the $2,145 she spent on two round-trip tickets to Grenada, taxes, and fees, as the DOE superintendent revealed on Wednesday.
