How did Jules Bianchi die?
Jules Bianchi suffered a terrible accident at the 2015 Japanese Grand Prix, undergoing surgery due to his injuries. The Marussia F1 driver passed away 9 months later in a French hospital at the age of just 25. Bianchi’s death was the first “death from injuries sustained in a race” ever since the death of Aryton Senna in 1994 at the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola.
On 5 October 2014, during the Japanese Grand Prix, Bianchi lost control of his Marussia in very wet conditions and collided with a recovery vehicle, suffering a diffuse axonal injury and he underwent emergency surgery and was placed into an induced coma, and remained comatose until his death on 17 July 2015.
The 21-year gap between their deaths was a safety record in F1 with no fatalities, which highlighted the dangers involved in the sport.
Bianchi’s death happened during a yellow-flag period. Bianchi glided off the track at high speed beneath a crane vehicle while it was removing another car from the track following an accident. Bianchi suffered severe brain damage from the incident and never regained consciousness.
Following the horrific accident, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), F1’s governing body, set up a panel to analyze the cause of the accident. The panel also sought to set up safety measures to prevent another tragedy.
Fans criticized Jules Bianchi’s controversial death report
Bianchiโs death anniversary, once again reminds fans of the controversial death report surrounding the French driverโs death investigation. The investigation panel after analyzing the incident drafted a final report about Bianchi’s death, citing no fault of F1’s procedures.
Instead, the report blamed Bianchi for the horrible incident. Tthe reason being that he did not slow down enough under the double waved yellow flags. Many fans and members of the media to this day criticize the report, which was commissioned by the federation’s president, Jean Todt.
