Hans Niemann was banned at least twice by Chess(dot)com for engine cheating in the last few years. They simply allowed him to come back with a clean account.

Why Hans Niemann is accused of cheating in Chess Tournaments?
Hans Niemann, the 19-year-old who defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen with the black pieces at the $500,000 Sinquefield Cup on Sunday, vowed that he was a changed man after admitting that as a youngster he had unlawfully used a computer to help him play chess online. Following a surprising interview on Tuesday night, Niemann said that Carlsen and other players, including the top blitz player in the world, Hikaru Nakamura, were out to destroy his career and that he was prepared to go to extreme measures to prove he wasn’t using a device to assist him cheat.
Allegations of cheating against Niemann intensified after many analysts observed his frequent blunders against youngster Alireza Firouzja that is extremely rare for a 2700-rated player.
Aftermath of Magnus Carlsen’s Withdrawal & Niemann’s response to cheating Allegations
Less than 24 hours after losing to Niemann in the third round, Carlsen withdrew from the competition, sending the chess community into chaos and disarray. The Norwegian announced his departure in a tweet that included a video of José Mourinho saying: “If I speak I am in big trouble”.
Niemann denied any impropriety in the Sinquefield Cup in a statement on Tuesday night. He did, however, acknowledge that he had cheated in the past, first when he was 12 years old and received assistance from a friend in an online competition, and then when he was 16 years old and engaged in unrated gaming while live streaming. He argued, nevertheless, that his improved play over the previous year was the result of his desire to atone for his mistakes.
In response to Hikaru Nakamura’s bold allegations, Niemann responded via Twitter and suggested Nakamura to rewatch his interviews carefully before critiquing each and every detail, and drawing fanciful conclusions.
