Depa slammed Joan Naydich to the ground, knocking her out. He allegedly told the police that he was “going to kill her.” Students and teachers were shocked and tried to stop the violence, but the teen kept beating Naydich’s limp body. Four people were needed to get the big student off of Naydich.
Depa has been charged with aggravated battery on a school board employee because of Joan Naydich case. This charge could get the teen up to 30 years in prison. And he or she will be tried as an adult. The troubled teen has been locked up three times in 2019 for simple battery, which is a form of violence.
Depa is thought to have behavioural disabilities, which means he needs special instruction and help. She was rushed to the hospital and then sent home. Also Joan Naydich said she is “overwhelmed” by the thought of the long fight ahead.
Naydich said on GoFundMe, where more than $66,000 has been raised for her, “I’m hopeful that the awareness of this incident being spread far and wide will prevent anyone else from ever coping with the trauma, physical healing, and disruption of daily life that this has caused,”
Who is Joan Naydich? Conflict in school on the rise!
Naydich worked with students with disabilities as a paraprofessional. She has been a teacher for more than ten years. And her coworkers say that she is kind and patient with her students. She has two kids, and her husband used to work as a sheriff’s deputy.
This case shows how teachers are being attacked more and more often in US schools. Different things, like mental health problems, a lack of money for special education programmes, and more aggressive behaviour among students, have been blamed for conflict like the recent one with Joan Naydich. However, no one can deny that there needs to be a better way to deal with these problems.
Many teachers and policymakers are pushing for more money and training to deal with the problems that lead to these kinds of incidents. To stop these kinds of things from happening, teachers and school staff also need a lot more help. With the right tools and help, we can make our school a safer and better place for students and teachers to learn.
