Godfrey during the post-match talk

“It will always be challenging. You are already aware of Erling Haaland’s skill level. I just had to go about my business. He was obviously upset, I think. His reaction was audible. He accomplished his goal and is still annoying others, so you should anticipate these challenges.

“Throughout our workout, Demarai [Gray] did that repeatedly. It was entirely due to him. Even though we were trailing 1-0 at halftime, we believed we would have another opportunity.”

“The outcome on Boxing Day was disheartening. To have such a terrible result, then go somewhere like City and succeed, is a testament to our character.”

Man City loses ground in the fight for the title when Everton holds them at home.

Everton held Manchester City to a heartbreaking 1-1 draw in spite of a second goal from Erling Haaland and a spectacular shot from Demarai Gray. Haaland’s 21st league goal in the 24th minute gave him the most goals by a player in the Premier League before the new year. With Gray’s looping equaliser in the 64th minute, Everton made a tremendous comeback.

Even after more than 11 minutes of extra time were extended because one of the match officials experienced technical difficulties in the second half, the city was unable to score. In extra time, Everton held off City’s charges to clinch an important point against the defending champions.
