The British professional footballer eventually kicked the ball, striking one of the spectators in the stands while clearly angry throughout the game. The Daily Mail claims that the 22-year-old player became enraged after conceding a foul and violently booted the ball, injuring a female spectator who was seated in the third row.

After instantly recognising his error, Yearwood hurried to the stands to apologise to the audience. His attempts were ineffective since the other fans sent him away without even allowing him to interact with the upset supporter.
The video of the whole incident has gone viral on various social media platforms, with many people expressing their displeasure at how Dru reacted. Many people also pointed out that he publicly recognised his mistake and he didn’t do anything intentionally.

The Red Bulls and Dru Yearwood both issued statements following the incident. They sent their apologies to their fans and well-wishers. The Major League Soccer team’s announcement said,
The safety of everyone that attends our events at Red Bull Arena is of the utmost importance to our organization.
It added,
Dru is incredibly remorseful and knows his actions were inexcusable, We will take measures to discourage this from occurring again. We along with Dru will continue to stay in contact with families to check on their well-being.
In his statement, Dru Yearwood explains what happened from his perspective. He said,
I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart to the fans who were hit by the ball I kicked at Saturday’s match.
He continued,
My emotions got the best of me on this day, and I’ve let down the entire organization and every single New York Red Bulls fan.
He concluded by saying,
I hope the fans are OK and that they can forgive me.

According to The Daily Mail, the incident resulted in a soccer player being dismissed in the 94th minute of stoppage time. He ultimately received a second yellow card from the official, which led to his dismissal with a red card.
