Despite the horrendous visuals, the referee refused to accord a foul for the appalling injury Chucky Lozano suffered
Mexico couldn’t have augured for a worse start to their soiree in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Not only was the side extremely dreary and listless against Trinidad and Tobago in its showdown on Saturday but the team ended up losing out on the services of Chucky Lozano as well.
In an excruciating bit of play, Mexico’s Lozano was left rendered motionless. It was an extremely unsavoury visual to devour with Trinidad and Tobago’s rattling into Lozano.
Chucky Lozano Suffers Howler Of An Injury
Bundled down by the defender, Lozano crashed head first into the open shoes of Marvin Phillip who was rushing to try and halt the Mexican wide attacking player. Lozano was immediately seen withering in pain and blood spurted from his face in a moment of anguish for the side’s raucous supporters.
While the incident was absurd, what left viewers even more aghast was the bit of referring done on the set of events which unravelled. Not only did Ricardo Montero allow play to continue as he refused to pay heed to the Mexican calls of a penalty but he ended up dishing out a yellow card to a Mexican player for his pleas as well.
Only in stupid fuckin @Concacaf is this not a foul — and referee didn’t even bother to stop the play, then proceeded to yellow card a Mexican player for yelling at him for not doing so. Chucky Lozano 😭😭❤️❤️ pic.twitter.com/AwL62rKQQr

The incident which occurred in the 10th minute due to Alvin Jones’ push on Lozano saw Lozano receive treatment on the pitch before being taken to a nearby hospital. Lozano who was stretchered away from the park was witnessed leaving with a massive gash near his left eye.
Hirving Lozano was replaced by Efraín Álvarez who is now cap-tied to Mexico after having played for both them and the USMNT at the youth levels. Trinidad an Tobago meanwhile managed to hold on despite facing a barrage of shots from El Tri to walk away with a gritty 0-0 draw from the affair.
It remains to be seen how long the injury will rule Napoli’s Hirving out of the tournament and if an subsequent action will be taken for the sordid injury he had to endure.
