The match between Norway’s Casper Ruud and Croatia’s Marin Cilic on Court Philippe-Chatrier was temporarily halted after a woman entered the clay surface. It happened in the third set when the match was tied at one set apiece.
The woman was taken out of the net after a brief delay. She is then dragged away by multiple authorities in suits as she lies prone in their arms, according to photos from the incident. Dernière Rénovation, a group of French activists, claimed responsibility for the match’s disruption.
In a Twitter tweet, the organisation explained why the match was being disrupted, saying it was trying to “bring attention to the climate issue.” Dernière Rénovation stated the woman who entered the court was Alizée, a 22-year-old woman who wore a t-shirt that read, “We have 1028 days left.”
Officials took their time carefully untying the woman from the net before carrying her away while the players were away from the court. The players returned after a 10-minute pause, allowing the contest to resume.
He went on to say that the incident might have affected Ruud and Cilic since the stoppage in the play had upset their routines. Henman continued: “It’s a terrible situation for the guys. It’s certainly one of their most important matches, and now you’ve got a break in the third set.
“The players were rightfully removed from the court, but I don’t believe they were allowed to gather up their belongings. It is up to security to regain control of the situation. But it’s not what you were hoping for.” Sad and dark times indeed. Maybe it was just a kink for the lady.
