Video of Anthony, the father of Lewis Hamilton congratulating Max and Jos Verstappen after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021 has gone viral
Although Lewis Hamilton had a win at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021 snatched away from him by Max Verstappen, his father Anthony was extremely graceful as his son relinquished his drivers’ championship title to the Dutchman.
In the lead with just five laps remaining on the night, the Brit looked set to bring home a famous win to his name. In one of the most intriguing and enthralling F1 seasons as the top two drivers went into the season finale level on points for the first time since 1974, Hamilton managed to overtake Verstappen right in lap one.

However, as Nicholas Latifi ended up crashing into the barrier in lap 53, Hamilton’s world came crashing around him. With FIA race director Michael Masi allowing lapped cars to overtake after the safety car period ended, Verstappen on fresh soft tyres managed to ease his way past the finishing line.

Despite the contentious and controversial nature of his son’s defeat, Hamilton’s father Anthony was seen amongst one of the first people going upto the Red Bull driver after the race. He congratulated both Max and his father Jos on the win, video of which has since gone viral on social media platforms.
“Firstly, congratulations to Max and to his team. I think we did an amazing job this year. My team, everyone back at the factory, have worked so hard this whole year, it’s been the most difficult of seasons. I’m so proud of them and I’m so grateful to be a part of the journey with them,” Lewis Hamilton said after the race.
