Agents Bill Duffy and Joe Branch inform Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that the Timberwolves and budding sensation Anthony Edwards have agreed to a five-year, designated rookie extension that will pay him the highest salary.

According to Wojnarowski, the contract could be worth up to $260MM, but it would depend on Edwards being named to the 2024 NBA All-Star team and the salary cap increasing by a maximum of 10% for the 2024–2025 league year. A 10% cap increase and no All-NBA selection for Edwards would increase the value of the five-year agreement to $217MM. According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, the contract will be for a straight five years without a player or team option.

Edwards, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft, has improved his efficiency and scoring average in each of his NBA seasons so far. In 79 games (36.0 MPG) in 2022–23, he averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 459/.369/.756 and earning his first All-Star nomination.
