On Saturday, Matija Sarkic, the goalkeeper for Millwall and Montenegro, tragically passed away at the age of 26. Sarkic fell ill while on international duty in his home country. According to Montenegrin daily newspaper Vijesti, Sarkic died early in the morning in an apartment in Budva.

Sarkic was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England and is a Christian by religion. His father, Bojan Šarkić, serves as a Montenegrin diplomat, previously holding ambassadorial roles in the European Union, United Kingdom, and Belgium. His mother, Natalie Šarkić-Todd, is British and works within a European media network. Matija had a twin brother named Oliver, with whom he shared memorable experiences during their time at Anderlecht.

During his time with Aston Villa, he gained valuable experience on loan at several British clubs including Wigan Athletic, where he made his debut in the Football League.
