So, here are all the news and details regarding Vinesh Phogat and Sonam Malik’s suspension by the Wrestling Federation of India.
Know Why WFI Suspended Vinesh Phogat And Sonam Malik After Tokyo Olympics 2020
As per the Press Trust of India (PTI) both the wrestlers are suspended for disciplinary issues. Before going to Tokyo, Vinesh was training in Hungary with her coach Woller Akos. Later, she joined the Indian team in Tokyo but refused to stay with the Indian wrestlers in Game village. She also wore a different singlet during her match. Shiv Naresh is the official sponsor for the Indian contingent instead she was wearing a Nike one.
Phogat also refused to train along with the Indian wrestlers. According to the sources, one day Vinesh’s timing clashed with the training timings of the Indian girls and she chose not to train at the same arena with them. One of the seniors said that this is not acceptable and this is not how senior wrestlers are supposed to behave.
Another Wrestler 19-years Sonam Malik also got suspended for some issues. As per the rules, it should be Sonam or her family members who should come to collect the passport from the WFI office. Instead, she sent SAI officials to collect on her behalf. Responding to that one of the officials said ‘they have achieved nothing and are showing attitude, these kids think, they have become star wrestlers and are entitled to do anything.
Both Sonam and Vinesh failed to grab a medal at Tokyo Olympics 2021. As of now, WFI has given them time till 16th August to submit their clarification on these charges.
