Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd. has obtained the media rights for the FIFA World Cup 2022 which will be held in Qatar, know about the company’s new sports channel

The other contenders in the media rights race were Sony and Star, but Viacom 18 was able to acquire the rights for Rs.450 crore.

Viacom 18 has secured the leading media rights in the entire Indian Sub-Continent. Viacom 18 is a Reliance-supported network, which means that Reliance has now entered the Sports Broadcasting Business in India.

Star Sports Network And Sony Sports Network Had Previously Held The Rights

The FIFA Rights till the 2010 World Cup were with Star Sports Network and were esteemed at USD 12 Million. In 2012, Sony Sports Network got the rights for the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Rio and the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.

As per facts, Sony Sports Network got the rights for the 2014 and 2018 World Cups at USD 80 Million. Viacom18 has now paid Rs.450 to acquire the rights for broadcasting the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup in India on its OTT platform Voot and a new upcoming sports channel.

Reliance’s Entry In Sports Broadcasting And Viacom18 Sports Channel

For the past few months, Reliance Industries Limited’s entrance into the universe of Indian Sports Broadcasting is a reality now. Viacom18, a joint endeavour between American entertainment network ViacomCBS and Mukesh Ambani’s Network18 has employed Star Sports EVP Ad Sales Anil Jayaraj as CEO of Sports Business. It is important that Anil Jayaraj has been instrumental in financially adopting huge cricket sections like Indian Premier League (IPL), BCCI and ICC Cricket for his former company Disney Star Sports.

Viacom18’s Other Sports Broadcasting Rights In India And Live Stream

In the meantime, Reliance’s Viacom has also obtained rights to La Liga, Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue1. Recently, Viacom has also acquired the Abu Dhabi T10 League. It is also being said that the Reliance-led Viacom 18 will be launching a brand new channel at the earliest.

The matches are available for live streaming and telecast on the Voot app at the moment.
