He was born in the year 1933. Vernon Winfrey spent 16 years on the Metro Nashville Council. With over 50 years of experience operating a barbershop in East Nashville, he was also well-known in his neighbourhood as a barber.
He was the father of famous host Oprah Winfrey. He and her mother Vernita Lee never married each other and lived together until she passed away in 2018 at the age of 83. There is no information on if he had siblings or not.
His Career
After serving in the military before, Vernon Winfrey moved to Nashville in 1955. After doing a few odd jobs, often two at once, Winfrey decided to become a barber in 1964.
Until he was considerably older, he allegedly trimmed hair at his Tennessee barbershop. His career as a barber spanned more than 50 years. As a result, Vernon was elected to the National Barber Museum’s Hall of Fame and became a member of the organization.
