Following his convincing victory over teenage phenom Christopher Yoo in Round 8 of the 2022 US Chess Championships, Jeffery Xiong rose to tied-fourth place in the standings, establishing himself as one of the main candidates for the open division title. In the meantime, Ray Robson won three races in a row to put pressure on leader Fabiano Caruana.

2022 US Chess Championships Format, Rules, Schedule, Date, Time, Venue, And Other Details
2022 US Championships is being held in Saint Louis Chess Club and featuring 14 of the best chess players across country in an elite over-the-board national championship competition. In addition to receiving $60,000 and the coveted title of 2022 U.S. Champion, the winner will be announced after 13 rounds. On October 4, there was a public opening ceremony to kick off the renowned 2022 U.S. Chess and U.S. Women’s Chess Championships. On October 20, there was another ceremony to mark the event’s conclusion.
Much-coveted 2022 US Chess Championships will have a 90-minute time limit on the first 40 moves of each match. The time limit for the remaining moves is 30 minutes, which is extended by 30 seconds for each additional move. There will be no drawing for games played during the Event’s regular season or postseason.

2022 US Chess Championship Day 8 Results, Score, Winners, Standings, & Round 9 Schedule
At the 2022 US Championship, Ray Robson won his third straight match to reduce gap between leader Fabiano Caruana and him to 0.5 points. During Round 8 matches of 2022 US Chess Championships, Jeffery Xiong’s win over Christopher Yoo was the only decisive match other than Ray Robson vs Elshan Moradiabadi. In women’s division, WIM Megan Lee defeated FM Ashritha Eswaran to capture lead with 6/8 points. While Jennifer Yu won her game to remain second with 5.5/8 points, Irina Krush was held to a draw against Morris-Suzuki Sophie to surrender her lead and drop to second place.
During other matches of open division, reigning champion Wesley So settled for a draw against Swiercz Dariusz while Lenderman Aleksandr missed winning opportunity against Dominguez before settling for draw. Winless run of Hans Niemann continued after he drew against out-of-form Levon Aronian. Megan Lee had won a crucial match against Jennifer Yu in round 7, but Yu quickly rebounded with a victory against Rochelle Wu. Irina Krush, who had her chances but was unable to overcome Sophie Morris-Susuki with the white pieces, and Yu are now tied for second. Alice Lee, who is presently in sole possession of fourth place with a score of 5/8, will face Krush in round 9.
In round 9 on Friday, reigning champion Wesley So will face Hans Niemann in a game that must be won. Also in Round 9, youngster Christopher Yoo will face off against Sam Shankland, and leader Fabiano Caruana will face off against Awonder Liang. On Friday, Ray Robson, who is presently in second place, will compete against Lenderman Aleksandr in an effort to overtake Caruana.

The winners and runners-up in open division of 2022 US Chess Championships will receive prizes of €60,000 and €50,000, respectively. Depending on how well they do at the 2022 US Chess Championship, participants in the open division will receive a portion of the $250,500 prize fund.
