Farooq Nazki was born on 14 February 1980. The name of his wife is not known. He is survived by his daughter Roohi Nazki. Farooq had six siblings.

His father, Ghulam’s family originally belonged to Qadi Kadal, in downtown Srinagar. The family traces its lineage to Mir Syed Ali (Bukhari), who headed the justice department of the King (Budshah) Zain ul Abideen early 15th century and Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki is the 7th descendent of Mir Nazuk. During his early childhood, Ghulam’s father Mir Mustafa, well versed with Persian and Arabic literature, shifted to Maadar village in Bandipore, where Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki and his younger brother, Ghulam Mohammad Nazki received their early education.

Born into a family renowned for its literary lineage, 83 year old Nazki was the son of the illustrious Kashmiri poet, Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki whose influence undoubtedly shaped his son’s artistic journey.

From an early age, Nazki exhibited a keen intellect and a passion for literature. While specific details about his formal education remain scarce, his upbringing in an environment steeped in poetry and prose undoubtedly contributed to his intellectual development.

His early exposure to Urdu literature laid the groundwork for a career that would span decades and leave an indelible mark on the literary landscape of the region.

Farooq Nazki’s career trajectory was as diverse as it was illustrious. Joining All India Radio (AIR), Nazki emerged as a prominent voice advocating for the preservation and promotion of Urdu language and literature.

On the 6th of February, 2024, Farooq Nazki took his last breath by marking the end of a remarkable journey filled with literary triumphs and cultural contributions. Nazki lost his life to heart attack. He was suffering lung issues as well.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son, who continue to cherish his memory and uphold his legacy.

In the wake of his passing, tributes poured in from colleagues, admirers, and fellow luminaries of Urdu literature. Haseeb Drabu, former journalist and politician, paid homage to Nazki’s enduring legacy, emphasizing the profound impact of his life’s work on the cultural fabric of Kashmir and beyond.
