With a 10-5 victory over Puneri Paltan TT in the first game of the 2023 Ultimate Table Tennis, the defending champion began their title quest on high note.

Despite losing a game each against Omar and Archana Kamath, Sharath and Yangzi were unblemished in the mixed doubles match. Yangzi and Archana were comparable in terms of pace, but in both singles and doubles, the Australian overtook the Indian at critical moments. Because of this, the Lions got out to a commanding 7-2 lead before the second round of singles ties even started. After that, Benedikt Duda and Manush Shah engaged in an intriguing all-southpaw match, but the German veteran defeated the promising Indian 2-1 to win the match for the Lions. In the night’s final match, Hana Matelova defeated Sutirtha Mukherjee to give the Paltan a consolation victory.
