2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship: England vs. Spain preview & road to final
It is not surprising that Spain and England will face off in Batumi for the championship as they both appeared to be in contention from the start of the competition. England has followed in the footsteps of Spain, who in 2013 reached the final by winning all of their games without giving up a goal. Spain defeated Italy 4-2 in the 2013 championship match, but England, who will have right backs Max Aarons and Ben Johnson back from suspension but will be without injured midfielder Jacob Ramsey, will hope it is more of a sign as they try to win their first title since 1982 and 1984.
Both teams entered the championship game after resounding victories in the semi-final stage. Spain trounced Ukraine 5-1, while England defeated Israel 3-0. England won 3-0 thanks to goals from Morgan Gibbs-White, Cole Palmer, & substitute Cameron Archer. The young Spanish players rallied to win convincingly, 5-1, despite falling behind early in the semi-final match against Ukraine.
