Over eight weeks, all the fans were watched Baek Yi-jin and Na Hee-do fall in love, one episode at a time. As the mid-season hit, fans were given the hints that characters do not end up together. Their break-up was at last confirmed in the finale episode of the Twenty-Five Twenty-One.

Baek Yi-jin and Na Hee-do Break Up in Twenty-Five Twenty-One
The last episode of the show Twenty-Five Twenty-One started off with Ye-jin bagging a Correspondent’s job-based in New York months after he covered the 9/11 attack. Hee-do was quite heartbroken so she decided to accept his decision which suggested that they should break up. Ye-jin then traveled back to South Korea to wrap up his home there and set up a base in the United States.
At the airport, their suitcases got swapped, however, Hee-do decides to leave his bag there only. Ye-jin drops off her bag at her doorsteps. Ye-jin and Hee-do talked with each other, with Hee-do suggesting that their breakup is final.
Hee-do breaks the news to the couple’s common friends of their breakup, hinting that the pair have now decided to maintain their distance from each other. Moreover, she was forced to reach out to him to cancel the couple’s mobile plans.
As an outcome, they spoke again but this time, Ye-jin told Hee-do that he could not fall back on her because of the trauma he experienced while reporting the 9/11 attacks. He chose to keep the pain to himself as he felt that it would be better if the trauma affect one of them instead of engulfing her in that as well.
Do Baek Yi-jin and Na Hee-do Reunite?
After almost seven long years, Hee-do and Ye-jin have a digital reunion after she achieved a gold medal at San Francisco University. In an interview, Ye-jin congratulates him on her wedding. The interview confirms that Hee-do has now moved on. The Twenty-Five Twenty-One finale moved back to the present day, with Hee-do finding her hands on the lost diary.
“My old diary found its way back to me, bringing back past regrets that I had forgotten about. The moment of our breakup haunted me, and I had wished to have it altered,” Hee-do narrates before a flashback, talking about how she had kept him waiting in the tunnel for too long. In the hypothetical scene, where they didn’t argue in such a hostile manner, they talk about their lives, comfort, and life-changing love.
Smiling ahead of the tunnel, the present day Hee-do recalls her memories and how she remains fond of her youth. There is a sweet epilogue where Yi-jin uses “Na Hee-do” as his security question answer to the question “who is your first love?” in an attempt to retrieve his password.
