The Turkish Grand Prix is a Formula 1 motor race track held at Istanbul Park Circuit and designed by Hermann Tilke. Over the years since the inception of this circuit, the Istanbul Park Circuit has been scheduled on the F1 calendar for 11 times, but has only been held 8 times. Interestingly? Isn’t it! 2005: The first winner of the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix was Kimi Raikkonen, while Fernando Alonso came second and Juan Pablo Montoya
Fastest Lap- This was achieved by Juan Pablo Montoya in 1’24.770; these record stands till date
2006: This race was dominated by Ferrari’s Felipe Massa who led from start to finish
Fastest Lap- This was achieved by Michael Schumacher in 1’28.005.
2007: Felipe Massa defended his pole position successfully, having qualified in the pole position as well.
Fastest Lap: This was achieved by Kimi Raikkonen in 1’27.295.
2008: This Turkish Grand Prix was a carbon copy of the 2007 event, with the same individuals backing the pole and fastest lap.
Fastest Lap- Kimi Raikkonen in 1’26.506.
2009: Jenson Button won the race with Mark Webber in second and subsequently Sebastian Vettel in third.
Fastest Lap- The Fastest Lap was achieved by winner, Jenson Button in 1’27.576.
2010: This was the first time McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton outraced Jenson Button for the pole position while to win the Turkish Grand Prix, while Mark Webber came third.
2011: Sebastian Vettel took the pole position while Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso ranked behind him.
2020: Lewis Hamilton won the Turkish Grand Prix in a Covid-19 affected 2020 F1 calendar to equalize Michael Schumacher’s record of 7-World Championship.
However, a race at the Istanbul Park Circuit was scheduled in 2012 and 2019 which was not held. While 2021’s Turkish Grand Prix was cancelled because of travel restrictions imposed due to Covid-19.
