The right-arm player got to play for South Africa against India in a T20I series. Before the match, Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first in the 1st IND vs SA T20I. Aiden Markram, who was ill, meant that Stubbs would be allowed to make his Proteas debut.

Tristan Stubbs’ debut for the South African side came just a month after he featured for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022.
In early May, IPL side Mumbai Indians announced the signing of South African cricketer Tristan Stubbs. The team signed Stubbs as a replacement for England international Tymal Mills. Mills, who suffered an injury earlier in the season, has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The Mumbai Indians said the following in their statement.
Mumbai Indians have signed South African Tristan Stubbs as a replacement for Tymal Mills, who has sustained an injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the Tata IPL. The 21-year-old, talented middle-order batter, recently debuted for the national South African A Squad against Zimbabwe.
Tristan has had a very promising domestic season and played an important role for his team in the recently concluded T20 domestic league. Tristan will join the MI squad for the rest of the season.
Soon after the announcement, Stubbs made his debut for the Mumbai Indians in a match against the Chennai Super Kings. He replaced the struggling Kieron Pollard to feature in the starting XI.
Who is Tristan Stubbs? A Brief Biography
Tristan Stubbs is a 21-year-old cricketer from South Africa, born on August 14, 2000. Stubbs stands at 1.84m and plays for the Eastern Province in his country’s domestic tournaments, the Provincial Cup and Provincial One-Day Challenge.
He made his debut for the team during the 2019-20 season in a one-day cricket match. He made his T20 debut for Eastern Province in 2021, after which he was selected to play in Cricket South Africa’s T20 Challenge for the Warriors.
Stubbs had an impressive outing last year in the T20 Challenge, earning him a spot in the South African A squad for a clash against Zimbabwe. His performances caught the eyes of the Mumbai Indians, who signed him for the IPL this year. At MI, Stubbs plays alongside fellow compatriot, Dewald Brevis, who has made a name for himself with his power-packed batting.

So far, Stubbs has recorded eight first-class matches, 11 list-A games, and 17 T20s in his brief career-span. The 21-year-old wicket-keeper batter registered 465 runs in the longest format, 275 runs in the one-day version, and 506 runs in T20 cricket, with averages of 46.50, 27.50, and 38.92, respectively. He has two centuries and one fifty in FC cricket, one fifty in List A, and three half-centuries in the T20 format.
