The 2022 Tour de France begins with the raising of the flag in Copenhagen, Denmark – one of the sport’s great occasions. It’s customary for the ultimate endurance test to begin outside of France, and this year’s race will also pass through Belgium and Switzerland before arriving in France.
The finish will be on the Champs-Élysées, as usual, in a processional sprint as one of the team leaders attempts to add their name to the winners’ list. But how long will the Tour de France be in 2022? How many stages are there, and how long is the longest?

The 2022 Tour de France will be 2,068 miles (3,328 kilometres). It will take place between July 1st and July 24th, with cyclists attempting to reach Paris first over a combination of hills, climbs, and time trials.
In previous years, the length of the Tour de France has fluctuated between 2,100 miles (approximately 3,550 kilometres).
Tadej Pogacar won the Tour de France for the second time in 2021, with a distance of 2,121.6 miles (3,414.4 kilometres). He needed 82 hours, 56 minutes, and 36 seconds.
Lucien Buyesse won the 3,570-mile (5,745-kilometer) Tour de France in 238 hours, 44 minutes, and 25 seconds in 1926.
What Is The Number Of Stages In The Race?
The Tour de France 2022 features 21 stages in total. They are divided into seven hills, six mountains, and six flats, with two-time trials thrown in for good measure.
The two-time trials effectively serve as the event’s bookends. Copenhagen’s opening stage is a time trial, as is stage 20 of 21. Because the final stage into Paris is often a parade with the finishing order established, stage 20 determines the winner.
The longest stage is stage six, which covers 140 miles (220 kilometres) in north-eastern France. Riders will only have two rest days throughout the Tour, on July 11th and July 18th, with July 4th serving as a transfer day.
