Ding Junhui, who qualified for the Duelbits Tour Championship by the thinnest of margins, defeated top-seed Mark Allen 10-5 to increase his chances of making the Crucible. Ding opened up a 5-3 lead in the first session after falling behind 2-0 by winning five of the following six frames. When he broke 91 in the first frame of the evening session, it quickly changed to 6-3.

Ding made it 7-3 by clearing from the final red to steal a crucial tenth frame. In the 11th hole, Allen had a chance to get one back, but he missed the final green to a centre pocket, and Ding once more punished him for an 8-3 score. Allen won two of the following three frames to bring the score back to 9-5, but Ding then sealed the game with a run of 95.
