Tony Yoka vs Carlos Takam: match events & post-match reactions
Yoka was unable to match Takam’s work pace throughout the bout, therefore Takam started the battle in his normal aggressive approach and never changed it. Yoka chose to secure points by throwing single shots, but his amateur strategy—which had previously worked so well for him in a number of competitions—seemed to be the wrong response to Takam’s savage methods.
After the final bell, there was a tense wait for the results and although one judge scored the bout 96-94 in favor of Yoka, the other two judges decided Takam as the superior boxer by scores of 96-94. Yoka must make a critical decision on his future, while Takam will be hoping to seize another significant opportunity.
