When the paramedics arrived, Browning was unresponsive and not breathing. He was found to be not breathing anymore, and no attempts were made to revive him.
The left-handed Browning had a career record of 123-90 with a 3.94 ERA and exactly 1,000 strikeouts in 1,921 innings over 12 big league seasons, 11 of which he spent with Cincinnati. In 1995, he participated in two games for the Kansas City Royals, both of which were losses. Two times, Browning was the majors’ top starter, notably in 1986 when he tied Atlanta’s Rick Mahler with 39 starts. Twice more, Browning shared the NL lead in starts (1988, 1990).
After a two-hour rain delay on September 16, 1988, Browning pitched the 12th perfect game in major league history against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He tossed just 101 pitches while striking out seven. In MLB history, there have only been 23 perfect games. Browning led Cincinnati to a World Series victory over the Oakland A’s in 1990 by winning 15 games during the regular season and two more during the postseason.
According to Brown County (Ohio) Municipal Court, on December 14 Browning entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanour charge of drunk driving. When Browning once left the dugout during a game at Wrigley Field in 1993, he also made headlines off the field. He was seen lounging on a nearby rooftop while still wearing his uniform. The group penalised him $500.
Additionally, Browning left the field during Game 2 of the 1990 World Series to visit a hospital in Cincinnati to give birth to his child.
His wife was Deborah Browning and they tied the knot in 1986. Deborah passed away in March of 2012. His net worth stood at $8 million.
