Mohammed Ben Sulayem Reveals Lewis Hamilton Will Be Punished If Found To Have Breached Article 6.6
While Toto Wolff made it clear that he wouldn’t be filing an appeal with the FIA’s International Court of Appeal in the aftermath of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021, he launched a scathing attack on the FIA and Michael Masi. He and Hamilton both abstained from making their presence felt at the awards ceremony where Mercedes were to be honoured for winning a successive eighth constructors’ championship title.
While the FIA didn’t make any statement about the two’s absence, new President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem has now opened up on the governing council’s stance. Taking over charge of the FIA after Jean Todt’s tenure came to an end, Sulayem revealed the FIA were looking into matters and Hamilton would be punished if found to have breached Article 6.6 of the F1’s Sporting Regulations.
Sulayem said: “First of all, as a driver, I feel emotional but at the end of the day rules are rules.
“So we are going to look into the side where the technical rules are there to be employed.
“Was he in breach? I have to look into it. We have to be following our rules, but in the meanwhile it doesn’t stop us from making a champion feel good about the sport.
“It’s easy to be nice to people, it’s cheap to be nice, and also to motivate people, but if there is any breach there is no forgiveness in this.”
